Verse #077 of 220
Beloved brethren in Christ, hear the voice of the prophet Isaiah echoing across the ages: 'Fear not, be not troubled...' (Isaiah 44:8). In the days when the Assyrian shadow loomed over Judah and the people trembled before idols of wood and stone, the Lord declared through His servant that there is no God beside Him. This is no mere reassurance but a thunderous affirmation of the one true God who has declared the end from the beginning. As the great Origen taught in his homilies on Isaiah, this verse strips away the veils of pagan fear, revealing that our anxieties are but shadows before the eternal light of the Creator. St. John Chrysostom, in his commentaries, reminds us that the early faithful, facing persecutions under emperors, clung to these words as to a rock, for the God who spoke to Israel speaks still to the Church. Drawing from the Catena Aurea of the Angelic Doctor, we see how the Fathers linked this to the Gospel promises: just as Israel was called to witness against false gods, so we are witnesses to the Resurrection, unafraid amid trials. Augustine of Hippo, in his sermons on the Psalms, expounds that true fearlessness arises not from human strength but from knowing the Lord alone is God, who forms light and creates darkness. Let us cast aside the idols of our age—wealth, power, and fleeting pleasures—and rest in the bosom of the Church, where the Spirit breathes courage. Thus, fear not, for He who was, is, and is to come holds all things in His hand. #FearNot220 #FearNotUNPLUGGED #077of220 #Catholic
